Mind

Change your thoughts and change your world. - Norman Vincent Peale

The connection of mind (energy) and body (matter) has been discussed, studied and proved for a long period of time.  Optimum healing often depends on how well the mind is connected with the body.

In his book “The Biology of Belief”, Dr. Bruce H. Lipton points out that “Thoughts, the mind’s energy, directly influence how the physical brain controls the body’s physiology.  Thought “energy” can activate or inhibit the cell’s function-producing proteins via the mechanics of constructive and destructive interference.” Having our mind’s energy shift to positive, life-generating thoughts and eliminate energy-draining and debilitating negative thoughts certainly help our health and well-being.  But mere thinking of positive thoughts will not necessarily make a huge difference in our lives.  Our mind is more complex than that because it can be further subdivided into the conscious mindand the subconscious mind.

The conscious mind is the creative mind within that represents the seat of our personal identity, source or spirit that connects to the physical world.  It is the self-consciousness or self-awareness that enables to appreciate all life and all events, conditions and circumstances we encounter and experience in life.  It is the mind that brings about our positive thoughts.

The subconscious mind is the mind that works on a stimulus-response program and learned experience.  It is a million times more powerful than the conscious mind when it comes to neurological processing abilities, which means, you can repeat the positive affirmation that you are a healthy and happy person; but if, as a child, you repeatedly heard that you were worthless and sickly, those messages programmed in your subconscious mind will undermine your best conscious efforts to change your life. “It turns out that the programs acquired by the subconscious mind shape 95 percent or more of our life experience.  (Szegedy-Maszak 2005)”, stated “The Biology of Belief”.

The conscious mind can think forward and backward in time while the subconscious mind is always in the “now”.  Tensions between conscious willpower and subconscious programs can result in serious neurological disorders.

Dr. Bruce Lipton points out that the cell membrane operates as the cell’s “brain”, which means it receives stimuli from the environment and then engages the appropriate and life-sustaining cellular responses.  In other words, our genes are not only dictated by our parents, but also can be shaped, guided and tailored by environmental learning experiences.  We can definitely “unlearn” our subconsciously programmed thoughts and let go of the fears that prevent us from experiencing love, which connects us back to our true self.

Your beliefs become your thoughts

Your thoughts become your words

Your words become your actions

Your actions become your habits

Your habits become your values

Your values become your destiny
